Initialisation Templates

Templates give you a fast, reliable way to set up your business with a clear Category Tree, meaningful totals, and ready‑to‑use Cash Codes. They are optional, but they save time and provide a clean, accountant‑friendly starting point.

Quick Index

What templates are

Templates provide a pre‑configured starting point for a UK business node: a Category Tree, rollups, Cash Codes, and related defaults.
They help your Cash Statement make sense immediately, without needing to build everything from scratch.

You can still customise anything afterwards — templates simply give you a strong foundation.

How templates help

A template installs:

The result is a Cash Statement that reads like a real set of accounts from day one.

Template options

Below are the available templates. Each one installs a complete Category Tree and Cash Code setup tailored to a different type of business.

VAT‑aware behaviour

Every template adapts automatically based on whether your business is VAT registered.

You can change your VAT status at any time in the Admin Manager — the system adjusts instantly.

Sole Trader vs Micro Entity

The system supports both business types using the same underlying structure.

Because the structure is shared, you can move from one business type to another in the future without losing data or rebuilding your setup.

MTD readiness

The system includes a quarterly MTD update category for sole traders, so you are ready for Making Tax Digital when required.

This sits alongside other tax groupings (such as VAT and Corporation Tax) and does not affect your day‑to‑day bookkeeping.

Abridged vs Full Accounts

The system is designed so the same data can produce:

Templates give you the structure.
Reporting layers — such as abridged vs full — are added on top without changing your data or your Category Tree.

This means you can start simple and grow into more formal reporting when you need it.
