Initialisation Templates
Templates provide a fast, reliable way to set up a business with a clear category tree, meaningful totals, and ready-to-use cash codes.
They are optional, but they provide a strong starting point.
What templates are
Templates provide a pre-configured starting point for a UK business node:
- category tree
- rollups and totals
- cash codes
- related defaults
You can still customize the system afterwards.
How templates help
A template installs:
- a clear category structure
- meaningful totals such as turnover and gross profit
- cash codes mapped into the correct areas
- VAT settings that match the chosen configuration
- corporation tax settings where relevant

VAT-aware behavior
Each template adapts automatically to the VAT registered setting.

If not VAT registered:
- VAT categories are hidden
- VAT control codes are disabled
- default tax behavior becomes zero-rated
Sole Trader vs Micro Entity
The system supports both business types using the same core data approach.
- sole traders do not use corporation tax
- companies do use corporation tax
Abridged vs Full Accounts
The same underlying data can support:
- internal management reporting
- micro-entity accounts
- abridged accounts
- fuller reporting outputs
Templates provide the starting structure. Reporting layers are applied on top.
